Space for the Citizens of Europe – NEREUS

December 4, 2012 11:30 pm

In 2011 we were approached by NEREUS, the Network of European Regions Using Space technologies and tasked with producing a short promotional video about their organisation. The promo looks at how GMES and GNSS technologies are already benefitting the regions that are part of the organisation. In 2012 we revisited this project in order to create language versions in the seven remaining languages of NEREUS’ members.

This is a short movie, featuring some sections of the 4 min 30 sec final movie.

For the full show in eight different languages, please click here >>

NEREUS

In their mission statement, NEREUS state:

“From weather forecasting to traffic management (to name but a few examples) space technologies have a growing impact on the daily lives of European citizens. Regions play a major role in all the stages of the value chain and in the policy-making and regulatory processes. At the political level NEREUS acts as the main interface between the Regions and the European Institutions.” When creating the promo for NEREUS, we wanted to ensure that the vast array of Space technologies that benefit the network of regions were equally and clearly represented.

The Story

NSC Creative worked closely with NEREUS which in turn acted as an intermediary with the individual regions to ensure their individual stories were part of the finished film. One of the key objectives was to highlight the various benefits of Space technologies for the ‘citizens’ of Europe. The team set out to show the various technologies made possible from GMES (Global Monitoring Earth Satellites) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) applications.

The Challenge

“NEREUS – Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies – cooperated with the NSC Creative in the production of a promotional video that showcases illustrative examples of regional space uses (EO/GMES, GNSS, Telecommunication etc.) for the benefits of regions and their citizens. The work succeeded to highlight the regional character of the portrayed space based services by presenting them in a regional context (e.g. oil spill – Azores, forest fires – Basilicata) with strong imagery and messages.

Since when we first met to discuss our storyline and see how to turn our ideas into a concrete product, the NSC creative team, headed by Paul Mowbray, showed a high level of professionalism and proactivity. During all the different phases of the production, they demonstrated great efforts to ensure a smooth collaboration and constant support.” Roya Ayazi and Federica Bordelot

The Result

“The final promo is a high quality product which portrays the immense economic and social potential as well as the strategic value of space technologies for Europe’s regions.

We truly wish to thank the team at NSC Creative for their great job.” Roya Ayazi and Federica Bordelot

IPS 2012 – About the Competition Winners

November 5, 2012 11:31 pm

A short while ago we announced the winners of our IPS 2012 prize draw and we thought we’d give you an update about their prizes…

Firstly, the first prize winner of our 6 month license of a show of their choosing (terms and conditions apply) was LWL-Museum für Naturkunde Westfälisches Landesmuseum mit Planetarium, Münster, Germany.

The planetarium in Münster, Germany, is part of a natural history musuem; it opened in 1981. The planetarium has a 20m dome and seats 250. It is one of the largest planetariums in Germany and has about 110,000 visitors annually. In 2010, a new fulldome projection system was installed which is among the most modern in the world, with an exceptional “8k” resolution of the projected image – to date, the only one of its kind in Europe. The planetarium is presenting shows on different topics, from star talks and general astronomy presentations to shows about spaceflight or natural history.

The winner of our runner-up prize was The St. Charles Parish Library Planetarium of Luling, Louisiana. Our little 3.0 has now been packaged up and is ready for his flight to the U.S.!

The St. Charles Parish Library Planetarium is a small, six meter dome attached to a public library. It is located just 32 kilometers west of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. For over thirty years, it has offered free, weekly, planetarium shows to the public. The planetarium also serves the local school systems and community organizations with its MEDIAGLOBE II star projector.
