December 5, 2012 11:21 pm

After months of planning Fulldome UK was over in the blink of a fisheye! Fulldome merriment was had by all from the best of Fulldome Films to the crazy and creative Fulldome shorts that competed for prizes… It was a veritable Olympiad of Fulldome with entries from all around the world.

We were ecstatic with our medal for Best Use of Dome for Miracle of Life, a Fulldome Cell-errific adventure. Although you won’t be able to experience it in all it’s dome-tacular glory we’ve got a full preview just for you…

This is the second award that Miracle of Life has picked up this year after it was crowned with the honour of Best Narrative at DomeFest in the summer.

The award for Best Sonic Experience went to one of our astrochaps! A very dapper looking Mr Aaron Bradbury was thrilled with his medal and has been showing it to all visitors to the Studio. We’re very proud of our astrodude, congrats Mr Bradbury! If you’d like to download his dometastic sonic adventure then click here >>

IPS 2012 – About the Competition Winners

November 5, 2012 11:31 pm

A short while ago we announced the winners of our IPS 2012 prize draw and we thought we’d give you an update about their prizes…

Firstly, the first prize winner of our 6 month license of a show of their choosing (terms and conditions apply) was LWL-Museum für Naturkunde Westfälisches Landesmuseum mit Planetarium, Münster, Germany.

The planetarium in Münster, Germany, is part of a natural history musuem; it opened in 1981. The planetarium has a 20m dome and seats 250. It is one of the largest planetariums in Germany and has about 110,000 visitors annually. In 2010, a new fulldome projection system was installed which is among the most modern in the world, with an exceptional “8k” resolution of the projected image – to date, the only one of its kind in Europe. The planetarium is presenting shows on different topics, from star talks and general astronomy presentations to shows about spaceflight or natural history.

The winner of our runner-up prize was The St. Charles Parish Library Planetarium of Luling, Louisiana. Our little 3.0 has now been packaged up and is ready for his flight to the U.S.!

The St. Charles Parish Library Planetarium is a small, six meter dome attached to a public library. It is located just 32 kilometers west of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. For over thirty years, it has offered free, weekly, planetarium shows to the public. The planetarium also serves the local school systems and community organizations with its MEDIAGLOBE II star projector.

Fulldome UK - Vortex

Fulldome UK is coming to The National Space Centre! Yes, three is indeed the magic number with the third Fulldome UK event being held at the biggest dome in the UK.

The event, which is being held on the 16 and 17 November will be the biggest Fulldome festival the UK has ever seen; not only due to the physical size and number of seats in the  Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium but also due to the exceptionally talented array of contributors.

With Live VJ sets, Workshops with Fulldome industry insiders and a plethora of artistic Fulldome shorts the festival will be a veritable dome-tastic extravaganza!

When asked about hosting the event at The National Space Centre, our very own Paul Mowbray said:

“We are all really buzzing about the event and the fact that it is happening on our doorstep! Submissions have been flooding in from all over the World, it’s going to be an awesome event with lots of great speakers and I’m sure lively debate. There is no place like dome!”

As well as showcasing the best of Fulldome shorts, produced by professionals and students the festival will also be showing the best new Fulldome films, which of course means that We Are Aliens! will be showing.

It’s set to be dome-licious so don’t miss out, buy your ticket now >>

BAP 2011 The aftermath…

September 23, 2011 9:48 pm

It seems like only last week we were getting ready for BAP 2011, the Planetaria event of the year for the UK and ROI. We’ve now had time to recover and reminisce over the events of the second weekend in September.

It was an early start for the astrochaps and chappettes of NSC Creative; we brought along new-girl Megan from the NSC Education Team for her first taste of BAP!

Our big news was official announcements and the screening of teaser trailers for ASTRONAUT 3D and We Are Aliens! They looked great on the Liverpool dome and were received with much excitement. A first for us was the screening of the in-production Fulldome film Cell! Cell! Cell! The content was still at “block-test” level but it was a great opportunity to get some feedback from the people who will hopefully be showing the film to the public and schools when it is finished. Despite our nerves of showing something that normally only the production team would see to so many people it was a great success and most people walked out of the dome genuinely having learnt something new!

The rest of the weekend was a lot of fun with some really interesting talks and demonstrations, great food and drink and the company of wonderful people. We can’t wait till next time, we have a feeling it will be a little closer to home also…

BAP 2011 this weekend!

September 8, 2011 9:27 am

We hope that no-one has forgotten that this weekend is BAP 2011 which is being hosted at the World Museum, Liverpool. Members of the NSC Creative team will be in attendance with some mega exciting announcements to make.

We hope you’ll join us there and please come and say hi if you do, we don’t bite, honest!
