As a result of our epic ‘Creative Business of the Year Award’ win picked up at this years Leicestershire Business Awards we’ve been given the keys to a car branded with our logo on for a few days. I feel a roadtrip coming on…
We very proud to say that NSC Creative is Leicestershire Creative Business of the Year 2011! We beat off stiff competition to take home the award from the event which was held at De Montfort Hall in Leicester, UK on the 08/04/2011. The awards ceremony was the culmination of lots of hard work submitting applications, being interviewed and showing the judges our best creative and business skills.
Some of the key factors under consideration were:
Cutting edge creativity
Managerial and financial performance
Clear understanding of the market place
Potential for growth
The performance of the current business including sales and profit growth
Strategic vision for the business
It has always been our ambition to supply the highest-quality creative content to a diverse range of clients. We continue to expand our creative portfolio but this recognition as a successful business validates our hard work and that we are not just good at making pretty pictures!
Representing the team on the night was Paul, Aaron and Ruth who took one for the team and enjoyed a slap-up meal, entertainment from Rory Bremner and 1 or 3 celebratory glasses of wine.
If you’d like to see what the judges thought of us you can watch our nomination video below. It was produced for the awards ceremony by the organisers, enjoy.
Exciting news! Global Immersion, our partners for the 2010 4DVenture at Our Dynamic Earth have won an award at the EMEA + InAVation awards held during the 5th ISE event in Amsterdam. They came top in the ‘Most InAVative Leisure or Entertainment Facility’ for Our Dynamic Earth, UK. They beat off stiff competition from three other worthy finalists. Last week Global Immersion sent us a thank you for our contribution to the project that won. A congratulations to everyone at Global Immersion and a ‘GO NSC CREATIVE!’ for us.
NSC Creative attended their first ASTC conference in October on the beautiful Island of Hawaii, hosted by the Bishop museum.
This was the first time NSC Creative had attended an ASTC conference. ASTC was founded in 1973 and now has more than 540 members in 40 countries. Science Centre and Museum Members include not only science-technology centres and science museums, but also: nature centres, aquariums, planetariums, zoos, botanical gardens, space theatres, and natural history and children’s museums; this again giving the team further opportunity to offer content to new markets.
It provided an excellent opportunity to find out about other institutions and get feedback on its productions and was a great platform for new content ideas and finding out what NSC Creative customers really want to see.
We then travelled to Hilo, (the big island) for the world’s largest Fulldome festival held at the Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii.
The festival had 52 full length shows – the largest amount of content at a dome festival to date. Participants came from over 11 countries around the globe. Participants were a mix of Fulldome distributors, key decision makers looking to purchase new content from the Fulldome industry as well as our competitors / other film producers.
The selection of shows ranged from films that are standard features, 3D programs, children’s programming, large format film conversions, and unique individual films.
The festival is a great chance to evaluate and preview content as well as looking at what is new and also see how the content is received by a live audience. All shows submitted are voted on by a board of experts and, more importantly, the general public. The team was delighted to pick up an award at this event for best script for “We Are Astronomers”.
The festival gave NSC Creative the opportunity to evaluate any gaps in the market for content and information share with other film producers on a variety of industry related topics. The team had interest in some of its show licenses, which it is hoping to convert to sales.
NSC Creative visited the lovely fishing village of Espinho. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to meet other content producers, animators, filmmakers, artists, students, teachers and planetarium professionals within the unique Fulldome market.
We had submitted some of our content from the shows ASTRONAUT and STARS in the competitive section. It was against some tough competition from around the world. There were also public and school screenings for all the competition entries.
After a weekend of back to back screenings of a varied selection of creative Fulldome content it was down to the final day on the Sunday with the award ceremony. This was presented by António Pedrosa and Lina Canas at the Centro Multimeios Espinho, who had organised and looked after us all for the event.
NSC Creative were delighted to pick up 3 awards for the following entries:
Best Soundtrack – The Hunter and His Dog taken from STARS
Best Visuals – Launch from STARS
Finalist – Living in Space from ASTRONAUT.
After a long but successful weekend it was time to return back to the office. We met some great people who share the same passion as we do. Striving to improve awareness and help get as many people into the exciting format of Fulldome as possible.

Last year NSC Creative picked up a “Domie” award at DomeFest 2008 in Chicago.
The coveted prize was for “Best use of Dome” for the piece Centrifuge. The piece Neurons also made it onto the final juried selection. These two immersive Fulldome sequences adapted from the ever popular ASTRONAUT show joined an eclectic collection of international contributions covering a diverse set of disciplines. The packed audience at the Adler Planeterium enjoyed an evocative 45minutes of Fulldome followed by a real world explosive fireworks display.
